Work to protect hundreds of homes from flooding will start five years earlier than planned, the Environment Agency has said.

Two areas of Dorset were set to see improvements to flood defences in 2021.

The £2.4 West Bay project near Bridport, aimed at improving the harbour and coastal defences, will now start next year.

A £1.6m scheme in Creekmoor, Poole, has been brought forward four years. It is hoped 550 homes will benefit in total.

The works form part of a £2.3bn nationwide flood defence programme.
