More than 50 firefighters have tackled a blaze at a landfill site in Dorset.

The fire started at Viridor's landfill site at Trigon Quarry near Wareham just before 19:00 BST on Tuesday.

Bere Road had to be closed while crews worked overnight to drench the fire using eight appliances, water carriers and diggers.

A high volume water pump from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service was also sent to assist with extinguishing the flames.

Firefighters are expected to remain at the site through the day damping down hotspots in the rubbish.

The site was the scene of a huge fire in August, which burned for three days.
