Bus driver killed in crash on Portland

A bus driver has died in a crash involving three vehicles on Portland in Dorset.

Police said the single-decker First Bus, a Citroen van and an Alfa Romeo were involved in the crash in New Road at 16:55 GMT on Tuesday.

The 59-year-old bus driver James Spelman died at the scene.

One of four passengers travelling on the bus and the van driver were treated for minor injuries. The driver of the car was uninjured.

In a statement released by police, Mr Spelman's family said he was "a very well-known figure" in Weymouth and Portland.

They added they were "very grateful for all the well wishes and support from the community" and requested "absolute privacy at this extremely difficult time".
