An image has been released of a man police want to speak to about an armed robbery at an Essex post office.

The photograph was taken by a member of the public who noticed the man acting suspiciously before the raid in Brentwood Road, Herongate, Brentwood.

The man, who was wielding a plastic bag concealing a gun-shaped object, demanded cash from two staff members. He made off with just £40, police said.

The robbery happened at 1610 BST on Monday 16 August.

The man is described as white, stocky, about 5ft 10ins tall, with shaven light hair and aged in his late 30s to early 40s.

He was wearing a dark hooded tracksuit and gloves.

Police have appealed for anyone with information about the man to contact them.
