Detectives investigating an armed robbery at an Essex post office believe the offender could be from outside of the county.

A man wielding a plastic bag concealing a gun-shaped object made off with £40 from Brentwood Road post office in Herongate, Brentwood on 16 August.

A photograph was taken by a passerby who noticed a man acting suspiciously.

Police said the offender may live elsewhere in East Anglia, Kent or London.

The man, who threatened two post office staff, is described as stocky, about 5ft 10in (1.78m), with shaven light hair and aged in his late 30s to early 40s.

He was wearing a dark hooded tracksuit and gloves.

The raid happened at 1610 BST.
