Charge after laser shone at police helicopter
A teenager has been charged after a laser beam was shone at the Essex police helicopter.
The helicopter crew reported that a purple beam was pointed at the aircraft as it flew over Chelmsford at 0045 BST.
Officers on the ground went to an address in the Arbour Lane area of Chelmsford where a device was seized.
An 18-year-old man from Chelmsford has been charged with recklessly or negligently acting in a manner likely to endanger an aircraft.
He has been released on police bail to appear before magistrates in Chelmsford on 20 October, police said.
