Witham infant school and MP demand re-inspection

An Essex MP has backed a school in its bid to be re-inspected by the education watchdog, Ofsted.

The Powers Hall Infant School in Witham has complained it received an unfair report and rating.

It was downgraded in its most recent Ofsted inspection from "Good" to "Satisfactory".

Witham's Tory MP Priti Patel raised the matter in the Commons and said there needed to be an investigation and a re-inspection of the school.

The school said the local education authority had also offered its full support.

The school claims the inspection was unfair because it took place too early in the school year to be representative.

Headteacher Claire Edwards said: "We had five new teachers... at the beginning of September.

"Although they were doing really well getting to know the children and getting to know their learning styles there was still a lot of learning going on for those teachers."

Ofsted said it could not comment on individual schools.
