Plea to sex attack victim's helpers near Southend club

Police want to trace people who helped a woman who was subjected to a serious sexual assault on her route home from an Essex nightclub.

The victim, who is in her 20s, left Churchills in Tylers Avenue, Southend, in the early hours of Sunday.

Police believe she was helped in the Chichester Road area about 0315 GMT.

Officers were called at about 0630 GMT when the victim arrived home in the Westcliff area with cuts and bruises to her face and arms.

She also reported losing her handbag, which was handed in to police in the early hours of Sunday by a man who did not leave his details.

Police said they want to hear from him, and anyone who helped the woman between the time she left the club and arriving home.
