Loft fire spreads and destroys family's home in Canvey
A family has been made homeless after a fire badly damaged a semi-detached house in Essex.
Firefighters were called to a fire in loft space of the house in High Street, Canvey, on Friday night.
Flames and smoke have destroyed the property but crews were able to stop them spreading to the adjoining house.
"A family of three and a pet dog were made homeless and the Red Cross helped them find alternative accommodation," an Essex fire service spokesman said.
"The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage but Essex Fire and Rescue Service, with the police, will carry out an investigation."
