Two men operating a parasail company in Turkey have been jailed for 20 months for criminal negligence over the death of a holidaymaker from Essex.

Roof tiler Glenn Hudson, of Wivenhoe in Essex, took a 15-minute trip with his daughter Emma when his damaged harness snapped and he fell 150ft (45m).

Boat driver Mustafa Kucukkavradim and owner Ramazan Salih Cengiz were prosecuted at Manavgat Criminal Court.

They played "fast and loose" with Mr Hudson's life, the court heard.

Miss Hudson, 26, said her father had been joking about the harness failing and how peaceful and safe the trip was when he suddenly dropped from the sky.

Now the 50-year-old's family have said, through their lawyers, that lessons must be learnt from the tragedy and safety improved to prevent further suffering.

The family are supporting calls for more rigorous safety checks to be put in place before the summer season gets under way.
