Man killed in A120 road accident in Essex

A 19-year-old man has died in a road traffic accident on the A120 in Essex.

The accident happened near Ardleigh at about 1000 BST on Monday when a black BMW 3 series car left the road and hit a bridge support.

The driver of the BMW, who is from the Colchester area was pronounced dead at the scene.

His front seat passenger, a man, 21, of the Colchester area, was taken to Colchester Hospital with injuries not thought to be life threatening.

Essex Police said the BMW was believed to have had slight contact with a green LDV van just prior to it hitting the bridge. This driver was uninjured.

Both carriageways of the A120 were closed to allow the landing of the air ambulance.

The Colchester-bound track of the A120 was likely to be shut for at least the next couple of hours, said police.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Essex Police.
