Street parties in Essex celebrate royal wedding

Scores of royal wedding street parties have been taking place across Essex.

One such event was taking place in Galleywood, near Chelmsford. Organiser Jaynie Vincent said many residents had been involved.

"It's been amazing. So many people have come out to help us... and get everything ready. It's very, very exciting," she said.

Several Essex couples also got married on Friday including Chris Davis and Pam Young from Bulphan, near Basildon.

Miss Young told BBC Essex she was delighted that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had got married on the same day as her.

"We think they're a lovely couple. England needs to celebrate," she said.

"This is just lovely. It's a good excuse to have a drink. I just love a royal wedding, I think it's so beautiful. We're the only country in the world that makes it this special."
