Four-storey building in Westcliff destroyed by fire

About 100 firefighters have spent the night tackling a blaze in a four-storey building in Essex.

The fire started just after 2100 BST on Sunday in a shop and office building on Hamlet Court Road in Westcliff-on-Sea.

A spokesman for the Essex Fire and Rescue Service said the building had been "all but destroyed".

Structural engineers are now at the site and an investigation into the cause of the fire will be carried out.

Hamlet Court Road remains closed, with a number of fire crews still at the scene.

Jefferies Solicitors based nearby and affected by the fire said they were setting up temporary offices were continuing their business activities as usual.
