Essex family's home destroyed by fire

A family has had their home destroyed during a house fire in Essex.

Firefighters from Braintree, Coggeshall and Halstead were called to the semi-detached house in Rayne Road, Braintree shortly after 0610 BST on Sunday.

Everyone in the house was accounted but firefighters reported that 25% of the ground floor was well alight and the whole of the roof space was in flames.

The fire was out by 0742 BST and the family has been given temporary accommodation by their insurers.

Two crews were initially sent to the fire, but two more engines were requested shortly afterwards.

Firefighters returned to the scene during Sunday morning to check the area remained safe.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
