Braintree murders: David Oakes remanded over deaths

A man arrested after the deaths of a woman and her daughter in Essex has been charged with their murders.

David Robert Oakes, 50, appeared at Colchester magistrates' court charged with the murders of Christine Chambers, 38, and her daughter Shania, two.

They were found dead at their home in Braintree on 6 June.

Mr Oakes, who appeared in court with dressings on his face, was remanded in custody to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on 30 August.

He was helped into the court by two officers who supported him in the dock.

He had been in hospital since the day the mother and daughter were found dead.
