Braintree woman hit by car dies in hospital

An 89-year-old woman pedestrian has died after she and another woman were hit by an Astra car in Essex on Friday.

A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of careless driving and later released on bail, police said.

The car collided with a Mercedes van near Cressing Road in Braintree before it hit the two women who lived locally.

The seriously injured woman was air lifted to Royal London Hospital where she died. A 54-year-old woman suffered a bruised hip and grazing to her face.
