Braintree woman hit by car was retired newsagent

The 89-year-old woman pedestrian who died after she and another woman were hit by an car in Essex was a retired newsagent, police said.

Gladys Sims was walking along Coggeshall Road in Braintree when she was hit by a Vauxhall which had just collided with a van near Cressing Road.

A 54-year-old woman suffered a bruised hip and grazing to her face.

A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of careless driving and later released on bail, police said.
