Southend siege: Man held after armed police stand-off

A man has been arrested following an armed stand-off with police in Essex.

Police officers carrying a stun gun entered the house on Elizabeth Road, Southend, at about 0740 BST.

Officers arrived at the building on Wednesday afternoon and were threatened by the 52-year-old occupant of the house who said he was armed.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill. Two women, aged 36 and 51, have been arrested on suspicion of possessing firearms.

Police are conducting a search of the premises.
