Man killed in hit-and-run crash in Epping

A man has been killed in a hit-and-run road crash in west Essex.

Police were contacted by the ambulance service at 06:30 BST on Saturday following reports that a body was lying on Epping High Road, Epping.

Officers arrived to find the body of a man who is believed to be in his 30s and from the nearby area.

Essex police are making inquiries to find out what vehicle hit him and to identify its driver. They are appealing for witnesses.

'Recent damage'

A police spokesman said: "We're looking to speak with any motorists who used the road after midnight on Saturday and who may have seen this man either walking along the road or lying in it.

"Furthermore, we're appealing for any driver who used the road and who has unexplained recent damage to their vehicle to contact us."

A section of the road has been closed while forensic collision investigators conduct their inquiries.

Anyone with information in connection with the crash is asked to call Essex Police.
