Reversing van kills elderly woman from Essex

An 84-year-old woman has died after she was hit by a van in Essex.

Ellen Elliott, of Eskley Gardens, South Ockendon, was struck at Motherwell Way, Lakeside, Thurrock, on Wednesday.

She was behind a white Ford Transit van as it reversed out of a parking space at about 10:50 BST and was taken to Queen's Hospital, Romford, where she died of her injuries.

The van driver, a 38-year-old man from Bishop's Stortford in Hertfordshire, suffered shock in the incident.

Mrs Elliott's husband was with her at the time but was uninjured.

Essex Police have appealed for anyone who saw the incident to contact its serious collision investigation unit.
