Toddler knocked down and seriously injured in Essex

A two-year-old boy has been knocked down by a car and seriously injured in a town centre in Essex.

The incident happened in Wellesley Road, Clacton, at 11:30 BST on Monday.

The youngster was treated at the scene by paramedics after being struck by a Toyota Verso car driven by an elderly man who lives in Clacton.

The boy was airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge with serious head injuries and the road was closed in both directions for four hours.
