Police seek arsonists after Harwich and Jaywick fires

A fire at a derelict hotel in Essex could have been started deliberately, police said.

Several roads around the High Street, Harwich, remained closed on Thursday after the fire badly damaged the former Queen's hotel leaving it unsafe.

Detectives said a man was seen running away from the building shortly before the fire started at about 03:15 BST.

Officers said they had also started a separate investigation into an arson attack on a chalet in Jaywick.

They said the two fires were not connected.

The fire at Jaywick was started at the front door of the chalet in Gorse Way at about 03:55 BST.

A couple there were treated for smoke inhalation.
