Essex Police authority expenses inquiry

Essex Police Authority has called in the Metropolitan Police to investigate its expenses payments.

The authority, which oversees the work of Essex Police, had asked auditors to investigate expenses payments and the way they were handled.

On the advice of Chief Constable Jim Barker-McCardle, it then asked the Met to look at the matter.

Essex Police Authority said it could not comment further while the investigation was ongoing.

The Met confirmed it was helping Essex Police Authority with an investigation.
