Lorry driver arrested over fatal crash in Essex

A 32-year-old lorry driver from London has been arrested over a fatal road crash in Essex.

The crash happened on Friday afternoon on Maldon Road, near Goldhanger, and involved a Ford Fiesta and a lorry.

The 59-year-old car driver from Maldon died at the scene. The lorry driver, from Upton Park, was taken to hospital in Chelmsford with foot injuries.

He was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and is being held at South Woodham Ferrers.

A section of the road was closed for six hours for forensic investigation and to clear oil and debris.

Any witnesses to the crash are urged to contact police.
