The University of Essex has unveiled proposals for new accommodation for up to 650 students.

The £22m development would see a number of town houses for 228 students and flats for an additional 420 on land adjoining its Colchester campus.

A planning application will be submitted to Colchester Borough Council at the beginning of October.

Building work could start in April next year and the accommodation could open in the autumn of 2013.
