Essex betting shop robbed by armed raider

An armed robber has held up an Essex betting shop at gunpoint and made off with cash.

The raid happened at the Coral bookmakers on London Road, Westcliff, just after 08:30 BST on Tuesday.

The man was wearing a mask, a grey jacket with a high-visibility vest over it and black tracksuit bottoms and was carrying a blue carrier bag.

He threatened staff with a firearm, forcing them to hand over a "four-figure sum", police said.

He then ran out of the shop towards Leigh.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact detectives at Rayleigh police station.
