Boy of six killed in hit-and-run crash in Southend

A six-year-old boy has been killed in a hit-and-run crash in Essex.

The crash happened when the boy and his mother were crossing London Road in Southend, near the junction with Balmoral Road, at 15:30 BST on Monday.

The boy was hit by a motorcycle and died shortly afterwards from his injuries.

A motorcycle matching the description of the machine involved in the collision has been found in the Southend area.

Senior Investigating Officer Insp Keith Whiting said: "We are appealing for witnesses and would also urge the motorcycle rider or anyone who can identify him to come forward immediately."

Anyone who saw the collision or has information about the motorcycle leaving the scene or being abandoned is asked to contact Essex Police.
