Arrests in Southend boy's death crash inquiry

Two men have been arrested by police investigating a hit-and-run crash in Southend, Essex, in which a six-year-old boy was killed.

The crash happened when Joseph Ball, from Westcliff, and his mother were crossing London Road, near the junction with Balmoral Road, on Monday.

He was hit by a motorcycle and died shortly afterwards from his injuries.

A man, 38, from Westcliff, and man, 26, from Southend, have been arrested in connection with the crash.

A motorcycle matching the description of the vehicle involved was found in Southend.

Essex Police said the 38-year-old has been bailed until 19 December pending further enquiries.

A 26-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday morning, after he attended Laindon police station.

He is currently in custody being interviewed by specialist road collision investigators.

Insp Keith Whiting thanked the "many people" who had come forward with information.

Any witnesses who have not yet contacted officers have been urged to call Essex Police.
