Spate of 'mindless' bin fires in Corringham

Bin fires started with aerosols in an Essex town have been branded as "mindless" by the fire service.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service has been called to 10 fires of this kind in Corringham over the past week, including six or seven this weekend.

Station commander Geoff Wheal said "bored youngsters" were filling bins in and around the town centre park with spray cans before setting them alight.

He said: "I would urge these kids to stop before it gets out of hand."

"It may be a quick thrill but if they explode in someone's face there could be a nasty injury to the young people involved or firefighters called to deal with them."
