David Record jailed for 1990s sex crimes in Essex

A man from Essex whose sex offending in the 1990s only came to light when he was arrested for theft 20 years later has been jailed for 11 years.

David Record, 54, of Cruick Avenue, South Ockendon, admitted 27 charges, including 16 sexual offences, at Chelmsford Crown Court.

These included two attempted rapes and three indecent assaults.

Speaking after the hearing, Det Insp Tracey Harman of Essex Police described Record as a "manipulative man".

Police said most of his sex offending happened between 1990 and 1999 and it was possible they had not spoken to all of Record's victims.

Record, who has been placed on the sex offenders register for life, also pleaded guilty to:

  • three counts of gross indecency with a child
  • five counts of taking indecent images of children
  • making indecent images of children
  • possessing indecent images of children
  • voyeurism
  • possession of a Taser
  • burglary
  • nine counts of theft
