Man dies after stabbing near Clacton off-licence

A man has died in a stabbing outside an off-licence at a seaside resort in Essex.

The victim, named locally as Liam Mearns, 21, from Clacton, was found bleeding in Wellesley Road, Clacton, at 22:00 GMT on Tuesday, a police spokesman said.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics the man died about half an hour later.

Two women and a teenage girl, three men and four youths, all from the Clacton area, have been arrested.

An examination of the scene by forensic science experts is under way and cordons are in place.

Detectives said they had recovered a number of weapons, including a knife, but were not able to say whether they had been used in the crime.

"Anyone finding anything in the vicinity of Wellesley Road, Clacton, that may have been used in the assault is asked not to touch it, but contact police immediately," the spokesman said.

Police have started a murder investigation and the 10 people arrested are being held for questioning at police stations in north Essex.

Wellesley Road will remain closed to traffic until further notice, police said.
