Dale Farm: Four more could face bailiff obstruction charges

A further four people could face prosecution for obstructing a bailiff during the clearance of Dale Farm.

Bailiffs moved in to clear 51 unauthorised plots near Basildon, Essex, on 19 October.

On Tuesday police said the cases of 16 people had been passed to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for consideration.

It has now said Basildon Council is the prosecuting authority, not CPS, in all 20 cases.

No-one has been charged, police added.

The four additional people are a 26-year-old man from Bristol and three women in their 30s, from Leeds, Ipswich and Cambridge.

Two men and three women have received cautions for the same offence, and a woman was released from her bail without charge.

A 24-year-old man, of no fixed address, has been charged with assault by beating and a public order offence in connection with disorder at the site on 19 October.

He is due at Basildon magistrates on 5 January.
