Missing Brentwood driver, 84, found in Kent

An 84-year-old man who left his Essex home in his car, sparking police concern that he could have travelled up to 180 miles, has been found in Kent.

Police believed Leonard Gilbert was probably confused, had no access to money and could have used half a tank of petrol after leaving Hartswood Road in Brentwood earlier.

They described the matter as urgent and said Mr Gilbert could be at risk.

Shortly after 14:00 GMT, police said Mr Gilbert had been found safe and well.

Police said they were alerted when Mr Gilbert called in at a shop in north Kent.

Brentwood is about 25 miles from the county border, via the Dartford crossing.
