Essex car park attack: Another man and woman arrested

Two more people have been arrested by police investigating the death of a man found in a car park in Essex.

Oliver Smith-Daye, 29, is thought to have been attacked in a car park behind Trimley Close in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, in the early hours of Sunday.

Mr Smith-Daye, from West Avenue, was taken to hospital with head injuries, but died later.

Essex Police said they were linking the attack to a disturbance during a new year party.

A 42-year-old man from east London was arrested on suspicion of murder and a 42-year-old woman from Clacton was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

'Instrument' recovered

Another man and a woman, both aged 21, were arrested on Sunday and are still being questioned on suspicion of murder.

Police said it was unclear if a weapon was used in the attack.

Officers have recovered a metal instrument from the scene.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place later.

Supt Glenn Maleary, from Essex Police, said: "We are not linking this murder to any other incident.

"Instead, we believe that the people involved had been celebrating the New Year and a disturbance ensued.

"We have arrested four people and are already a significant way into this investigation.

"Oliver's family is being supported by one of our family liaison officers."
