Four people remain in custody after being arrested by police investigating the death of a man found in an Essex car park.

Oliver Smith-Daye, 29, is thought to have been attacked behind Trimley Close, in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, in the early hours of Sunday.

Mr Smith-Daye, from West Avenue in the town, died after being taken to hospital with head injuries.

Police are linking the attack to a disturbance during a new year party.

Two men, aged 21 and 42, and a 21-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

A 42-year-old woman is being questioned on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

Police said it was unclear if a weapon was used in the attack.

Officers have recovered a metal instrument, understood to be a golf club, from the scene.

Police are due to announce the results of post-mortem tests later.
