Man bailed over dog owner row death in Braintree

A 39-year-old man arrested over the death of a 65-year-old woman after a row over dogs in an Essex street on Wednesday has been released on bail.

A post-mortem examination into the death at an address in Connaught Gardens, Braintree, was inconclusive and further tests will be carried out.

Detectives are now investigating the death as a suspected manslaughter.

The woman was Valerie Ager who died following a verbal street argument between dog owners, police said.

Answer bail

Mrs Ager was accompanied by a man in his 60s and at about 09:45 GMT the row broke out in Trafalgar Way, a police spokesman said.

"It continued as Mrs Ager moved into Connaught Gardens where she collapsed and an ambulance was called.

"She was taken inside an address in Connaught Gardens where she died."

The arrested man must return to an Essex police station on 15 February to answer bail.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area of Trafalgar Way and Connaught Gardens on Wednesday morning, and may have any information, to contact them.
