A woman has been forced into a car and raped, prompting an appeal by Essex Police to find a silver Ford Focus and its owner.

The victim, who is in her 20s, was in New London Road, Chelmsford, early on Saturday when she was threatened by a man in a car.

She was driven to Wood Street, where the rape is believed to have happened at between 02:00 and 03:00 BST.

Police said the car was a silver Ford Focus, registration AJ51 FKB.

It had been identified by CCTV cameras, police said.

Its registered owner is from the Brentwood area.

Specially trained officers are working with the woman and officers are conducting inquiries to identify the man responsible, police said.

The suspect is white, in his late 20s, about 5ft 8in (1.72m), and of slight build.

Det Ch Insp Simon Werrett said: "I would urge the owner of this vehicle to get in touch with me."
