Man arrested after car hits pedestrians and Southend shop

A 40-year-old man has been arrested after a car left a road in Southend and hit two pedestrians and a shop.

The man, from Southend, has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs.

The crash happened on the A127 Princes Avenue at about 11:20 BST.

Both pedestrians were seriously injured and one, a 45-year-old local man, was taken to Royal London Hospital with "life-threatening injuries".

Any witnesses to the crash, which involved a Ford Escort, are asked to contact the police on 101.
