Two men have been jailed for their part in a robbery at a Southend flat in which a man later died in hospital.

Christopher Ryan, 45, was found with serious head injuries at Coleman Street in November 2011.

John Nafzger, 40, of Westbury Road, Southend, was sentenced at Southwark Crown Court to at least six years for manslaughter and robbery.

Christopher Walker, 24, of Mansted Garden, Rochford, was sentenced to five years for robbery.

Speaking after the three-week trial Det Insp Martin Pasmore, of Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: "John Nafzger has a long history of violence and drug-related crime."

He said he hoped Nafzger's sentence would ensure "he is not released until he is no longer a danger to the public..."
