Burglars attack Southend victim with baseball bat

Police in Essex are investigating two aggravated burglaries, including one in which a person was hit around the head with a baseball bat.

Three men, one of them carrying a claw hammer, broke into the house in York Road, Southend, at about 21:00 BST on Wednesday, attacking people inside.

They stole various items before escaping.

In the second incident, at 17:00 BST on Saturday, three men, two armed with knives, entered a house in Westcliff.

They demanded money from a woman in her 20s who was at home with her young children.

She ran out of the door and called police as the men searched the house. The men escaped, having taken nothing.

Police are appealing for information.
