Baby hurt in Billericay kitchen fire

A baby girl has suffered burns in a fire which broke out in the kitchen of her home.

Essex Fire and Rescue Service was called to Grove Road, in Billericay, shortly before 09:00 GMT.

A spokesman said firefighters arrived to find the fire had been put out but a three-week-old baby had suffered burns.

She was given first aid and oxygen by firefighters before she and a man were both taken to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford for further care.

The East of England Ambulance Service said it could not give an indication as to the severity of the baby's injuries because of "patient confidentiality".

The cause of the fire is yet to be established by the fire service.
