Essex snow: Schools to open late after snow falls

A number of schools in Essex are to delay morning opening after snow fell during the night.

People in many parts of the county awoke to a covering of wet snow on Monday morning with up to three inches (8cm) reported in parts of Chelmsford.

The county's main roads are reported clear of snow and a BBC travel reporter said the main problem is surface water.

Forecasters say outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow will gradually die away.
