Inquiry into man's death after Canvey Island arrest

The police watchdog has started an investigation into the death of a 31-year-old man after he was arrested.

Steven Bore was arrested on a houseboat at Smallgains Marina, Canvey Island, on Sunday for non-payment of council tax.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said Mr Bore was being escorted by two officers when he fell from a wooden jetty.

He was taken by ambulance to Basildon Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An IPCC spokeswoman said: "The incident was referred to the IPCC by Essex Police in the early hours of Sunday 17 February and an IPCC investigator was sent to the scene to conduct an assessment."
