A woman who stole cash from poppy collection boxes on Remembrance Day has been jailed.

Iulia Olteanu, 31, admitted three theft charges and one count of failing to answer bail when she appeared before magistrates in Southend.

Poppy tins were stolen shops in Hockley and Rochford during the afternoon of Remembrance Sunday last year.

Olteanu, of Barking in east London, was jailed for a total of 84 days. No order for compensation was made.

CCTV showed Olteanu accompanied by a man, thought to have been Liviu Ghitoi, whom police are still searching for.

The poppy tin thefts occurred at Costcutter in Hockley, and Tates Spar and Saunders Food and Wine in Rochford.

The thefts were labelled "disgraceful" at the time by the owner of Costcutter, Peter Woods.

The amount of cash in the poppy boxes when they were taken is unknown.
