Essex ex-PC Hannah Notley admits neglecting rape inquiry
An ex-police officer failed to investigate a rape allegation and told the victim the case had been dropped.
Hannah Notley, from Benfleet, pleaded guilty, at Inner London Crown Court, to misconduct in a public office.
The 30-year-old also let colleagues at Essex Police believe the case had been passed on to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), the court heard.
Judge Alistair McCreath bailed Notley until 6 December, when she is due to be sentenced at Southwark Crown Court.
The alleged attacker is currently awaiting trial, the court was told.
Judge McCreath said Notley had engaged in conduct that amounted to an abuse of public trust while in a public office, between 6 July 2011 and 21 April 2012.
"It is very important that you understand that the court will pass on you a sentence that is fair and correct," he said..
He then granted bail but said: "Nothing I'm doing or saying can amount at all to a hint, indication or promise of what will await you."
