Westcliff man accused of murdering John Anker, 84

A 34-year-old man has been charged with murder after an elderly man was stabbed in an attack at a house in Essex.

John Anker, 84, was found in a property on Burr Hill Chase, Southend, at about 14:00 GMT on Thursday. He died from a stab wound to the chest.

Anthony Winter, of Westborough Road in Westcliff, is due before magistrates in Chelmsford later.

He is also charged with the attempted murder of a woman, 81, who was treated at the scene for stab wounds.

She remains in a stable condition in hospital.
