Michael Haastrup Braintree murder: Man remanded in custody

A man has appeared in court charged with murder after the fatal stabbing of a 24-year-old at a flat in Essex on Wednesday evening.

Luke Eva, 24, of Avondale Road in Leigh-on-Sea is accused of killing Michael Haastrup, of Southend, at a flat in Cressing Road, Braintree.

Chelmsford Magistrates remanded Mr Eva in custody to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on Tuesday.

Mr Haastrup, who died in hospital, had recently become a father.

A second man was injured during the incident, but his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

A 20-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released on police bail until 30 May.

A 57-year-old man was released without charge on Friday.
