Man in hospital after Essex shooting

A man from east London has been injured in a shooting in Essex.

The 36-year-old was shot in the shoulder at Woolston Hall, Chigwell, on Sunday afternoon. He is being treated in a London hospital.

Armed police were initially sent to the scene, which is now being examined by detectives and forensic teams carrying out further inquiries.

An investigation into the shooting is continuing and Essex Police said there was no threat to the general public.

The man's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Business as usual

Det Ch Insp Simon Werrett said: "Specialist search teams will be carrying out a sweep of the location this morning but arrangements have been put in place to make sure that businesses at the location can open as usual.

"We have spoken to a large number of witnesses and are building up a picture of the circumstances surrounding this incident.

"All the information we currently have suggests there is no threat to the general public from this incident."
