An investigation is under way after a "suspicious" blaze ripped through the roof of a pub in Essex.

Crews were called to the Kings Head in Bradwell-on-Sea about 17:30 BST on Friday where the fire was "well developed", said Essex Fire and Rescue.

Five engines attended the incident which "affected the whole of the pub", said incident commander Dave Moore.

The fire was extinguished just before 19:00 BST, but crews remained on the scene overnight. Nobody was hurt.

The cause of the blaze "is thought to be suspicious", said a fire service spokeswoman.
