Detectives investigating the murder of a man stabbed 102 times have released all ten suspects from bail without charge.

The body of James Attfield, 33, was found near Lower Castle Park, Colchester, on 29 March 2014.

The final two arrested people, a 19-year-old Colchester man and a 23-year-old Ipswich woman, were released this week, Essex Police said.

The others were released from police bail in November.

Det Ch Insp Simon Werrett said they had a number of lines of inquiry, but the key to solving Mr Attfield's murder "remains in the Colchester community".

"I am sure that people still have information that could assist us," he said.

"I remain confident that with the team I have and the assistance of the people of Colchester we will find out who killed James and there are a number of active lines of enquiry that we are still progressing."

Anyone with information is asked to call Essex Police.

Suspects released from police bail:

  • men aged 19, 27, 31 and 57 from Colchester
  • a woman aged 27 from Colchester
  • a woman aged 25 from Southend
  • a woman aged 23 from Ipswich
  • men aged 18, 33 and 33 of no fixed address

Police said the death of Mr Attfield was being investigated "in parallel" with the killing of a Saudi Arabian student Nahid Almanea, who was found stabbed 16 times in June, also in Colchester.
